Navigating the Path to Academic Success: Meet Scott Hardin

Scott was raised in Atlanta. A student at the Westminster Schools, his interests naturally gravitated towards history and science; however, his dreams of entering the business world led him to pursue a degree in economics.

While Scott initially envisioned economics as a direct pathway to business, he now recognizes that the discipline served a different, yet still very important purpose: laying a solid foundation in mathematics, something that would significantly influence his future career.

Facing the challenges of Duke University, Scott encountered for the first time the need to self-organize all areas of his life, academic, and personal. This was a particularly daunting task, as he was battling severe undiagnosed ADHD. Instead of succumbing to the challenge, Scott experienced significant growth and learned lifelong self-improvement lessons. His time at Duke not only led him to graduate with honors in Economics, but it was there where he honed his multi-dimensional talents as the business manager of the university’s daily newspaper, "The Chronicle," and as a member of the acapella group "Speak of the Devil."

In his twenties, Scott explored different fields, working in IT and managing multimillion-dollar quotas as a sales representative before his creative spark got extinguished. Craving inspiration and meaning, he sought a new path, and this wanderlust led him to the rewarding field of tutoring. It began as a side venture, but as he discovered his genuine love for the art of teaching, he dedicated himself to full-time tutoring.

Scott has found fulfillment cultivating a unique and effective tutoring style. He focuses on understanding a student's individual goals, strengths, fears, anxieties, and motivation levels. Dealing with ADHD himself, Scott understands how to form insightful connections with students facing similar challenges. He assures his students of his broad knowledge, enabling him to provide comprehensive feedback based on deeply ingrained test insight.

Through establishing dialogues and asking thought-provoking questions, Scott empowers students to independently uncover answers to the most daunting problems. With over fifteen years of experience, he has guided countless students towards significantly improving their standardized test scores, leading them to be accepted into prestigious universities such as Vanderbilt, Duke University, Princeton, UGA's Honors program, and many more.

Describing himself as a "holistic" tutor, Scott's approach on tutoring goes beyond academics. He recognizes the various factors that influence a student's performance on standardized tests, especially stress from competitive schooling environments. Despite his experience in sales at IBM, he admits that the biggest professional challenge he has faced is selling himself and his services. Yet, Scott's name continues to spread as his student's success stories turn into heartfelt testimonials and referrals.

So, why choose Scott Hardin as your tutor? Beyond his impressive test scores (1580 SAT and 337/340 on the GRE), understanding of learning difficulties, and hands-on approach to stress management lies the answer – Scott’s professional life is dedicated to unearthing students' potential and celebrating the victories along the way. He leaves an indelible mark not just as a tutor but as an empathetic guide on the rewarding path to academic success.
